The shower upgrade involved the replacement of 320 cell lavatories, and 32 cell block showers on eight levels of secure high-rise prisoner housing, in addition all walls, finishes, lighting, ventilation and fixtures were replaced in 6 dormitory bathrooms. The design included an eight stage phasing plan to permit construction while the facility is in use. The scope of work for the façade renovation involved: data collection from exploratory probes and field observations, a report of the findings along with a program for remedial work and repair, and detailed drawings and specifications. This work involved coordination of architectural and engineering recommendations and solutions with Department of Design and Construction (contracting agency) and Department of Corrections (user agency). The design includes addressing the security concerns during construction.
