The project is located at the corner of Warwick Street and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, with a capacity of approximately 480 students. The school incorporates 56,000 GSF with a 3,000 Sq. Ft. playground area off Atlantic Avenue. Purcell Architects are the design architects for this project which has been constructed under the New York City School Construction Authority design build program. The school was completed and occupied as scheduled on September 2010.
With the main entrance located on Warwick Street space was provided for school bus loading and unloading away from the heavy traffic of Atlantic Avenue. The main building façade on Atlantic and Warwick is designed with masonry and cast stone elements.
East of the new building is a play yard. The yard faces south and offers a good opportunity to create a cheerful space for the student’s playground. Within this area the children have access to play equipment and a school garden that compliments the greenhouse linked with the science program at the fourth floor level.
